Spring Summer 2010
Trends |
|
|
Call it a sign of the times but this
season has sadly been named the season of 'lost lustre' as the
runways were heavy with inertia. Fashion might have
temporarily lost its way but the burgeoning bloggerati and
Fashion Houses' awakening to the Internet show a glint of
technological hope on the horizon. |
|
Web
With fashion as we know it hanging by a
thread, designers mimic this uncertainty
by holding their garments together with
lacing, laddering, knotting, tying and
weaving. The resultant look is one of a
tangled spiders web – macro holes that
spin their way around the wearer and
entangle the body as if being consumed
by an arachnid. The detailing too is
reminiscent of the Black Widow, as some
designers complement their cobwebby
looks with glass-orbed necklaces that
look suspiciously like spiders eggs. Web
is such a fundamental part of this season
that it not only formed an integral part
of garment construction, bound clothes
together, linked themes but it also adds
fresh air to textiles. |

Invasion
Florals are a common sight in Summer
collections but this season the florals
flourish at an astonishing rate. They
invade and swarm over the body in a
frenzy of activity. Appliqué, cutouts, eyepopping
prints and attached pieces of
plastic are used to represent blossoming
flowers. They congregate on garments
in a manic and uncontrollable manner in
a 3-D representation of a 21st century
overgrown English country garden. This
is a seedling of a trend that needs no
tendering to take root and bloom. |

EnTrenched
Feminine yet solid no-nonsense clothing is
the cornerstone of this safari-cum-trench
coat trend. In shades of ivory, nudes, camels, butterscotch,
soft silvers and putter, this dreamy uncompromising palette
is fit for anywhere. Deceptively understated, the classic
lines of this trend draw inspiration from contemporary
buildings and minimalism but also from the military.
Super-fine leather tees, high-waisted
trousers, neat jackets, button detailing and pockets a
plenty. Practical yet utterly polished. |
